Photographer: Mathew Weaver

Model: Liam Cassin, Elliot Tickle, Nick Mercer, Sherrie Austin

Date of shoot: 3rd December

Call Time: 13:45 - 14:45

Title of shoot: Energy drink subjects

Theme: Music - in a band

The aim of this photoshoot will be to capture an image of the subjects looking like there in a band, whilst looking rather serious. This will link with the connotations of the product – GASH energy, concentration, energy. i will be using the blue screen for my photo shoot because when i am going to edit them, it will be easier to be able to remove the back ground if necessary. I'll be positioning them in generic band 'poses' to make it seem legitimate. i have researched poses that bands may do when being photographed and used them as a starting point.

Location of shoot: PA16 in College

Meeting Point: Priestley College 13:45

Wardrobe: Subjects to wear the clothes they come to College in

Hair and make-up: Natural hair

Props / Costume: Baseball cap, glasses, winter coats, denim jacket,

Necessary Kit: Canon 1100D

Legal and Ethical issues in planning

In planning my photoshoot, I need to be careful not to produce images that might offend anyone - for instance by creating racial stereotypes or a sexiest representation of women. In my photographs I plan on having several people stood relatively close together dressed rather casual looking into the camera. There is a danger that hand gestures may seem offencive to people so we will stay clear of anything to do with hands. There will be a girl in the photographs but will be wearing nothing revealing to stay clear of the chance of the images becoming sexually provocative. I aim to make the photographs serious to get across that they take being in a band serious.

When taking the photographs I will make sure to get the permission of the owner of the area as it would be classed as trespassing and could lead to legal issues. Luckily I took my pictures in college so there was no need for me to get permission.
The law of trespass in relation to land is designed to protect an individual from unlawful interference by somebody else with his land.
Trespassing on to somebody else’s land without a lawful excuse is an offence itself and is one of the rare forms of tort claims in which a claimant can bring a claim without having to prove any damage has occurred. However, it is not a criminal offence and so property owners must bring their claim in the civil courts.

Tips for photo shoot

First thing you should do when trying to do a good photo shoot is to make the subject feel comfertable so they look and act more natural to obtain better photographs.

Make sure the subject looks presentable. If an item of clothing looks out of place, sort it out or ask them to.

Make sure you use a fast shutter speed if you are not using a tripod as you may get camera sway in the picture!

Use the rule of thirds to get a more appealing looking shot of the subject. Making the person look good and center of attention on the photograph.

Play with the settings on the camera to change the brightness and contrast and saturation to attempt to get a better looking picture or you could do it on a photo editing software like photoshop.

Don't ofrget to use natural lighting like the sun as it is more flattering and brings out the natural beauty of the subject being photographed.

Keep the subject moveing to obtain different shots at different angles.

Make the subject smile and laugh to get a veriaty of different facial expressions because one facial expression is boreing.

Use an infinate wall to get a perfect smooth back ground with no shaddows.

Give the subject something to play with. Give them some props to use during the photo shoot to add a bit of excitement in the photo's.

Lastly just enjoy it! If you're haveing a good time, guaranteed the subject will be to.

using manual camera settings

This picture was taken with a 5 second shutter speed and appature was automatic (the camera did the work with the shosen setting). There was very little ligh in the room to get a better picture with the light. with an f-stop of f/20.

this picture was taken on the setting Appiture Prioriy (Av) which means you set the appature and then the camera will automaticly ajust to the light. But with the camera being on a manual setting, you have to focus the camera your self. The can, cable tie, fense post look in focus and as the photograph goes on, behind them the photo gets blury.

camera work

when takeing this photograph the shutter speed was set at 1/1000 of a second (which is really fast!) and the iso was set at 800 to get a resonably smooth image. the f stop was at 10.

Tom Jenkins: sports

Tom Jenkins is a sports photographer who works for the Guardian news paper and the purpose of his photographs is for the guardian. The photographs would generally go with a written story. The category of his photographs lands in sport (because he is a sports photographer). to get the images needed he uses a telephoto lens to capture the image perfectly still with an extremely fast shutter speed.

Image analysis: This is a photograph of Johnny Wilkinson, this man is not big on celebrations but it shows that he does still care. When this photograph was taken the camera must have been on a manual setting so he could focus the camera himself. the aperture must have been small so quickly get the snap he needed fast with a good quality finish.

Interpretation of meaning: even though Johnny is not a celebratory man it show he knows where credits due. It's a subtle way of a celebration without rubbing it in the opposing teams face.

Image analysis: this photograph was taken with a slow shutter speed as it will capture motion blur giving the photograph a unique look.

Interpretation of meaning: this photograph has made the acrobat look like a bird or a form of butterfly meaning she looks free and can fly and follow her dream.

Image analysis: this photograph was taken with a fast shutter speed and a wide angle lens to get the image of him running as he would naturally

Interpretation of meaning: it shows that regardless of a disability people still will follow there dreams and will do what it takes to make it happen. It shows that the is concentrating on his goal which is the finish line and success. It shows that he will succeed.

Rankin: Portraits

Rankin:

Category - Portraits (landscape, portrait, capturing the personality in a photograph)
Purpose - Magazines (fashion, dove adverts), sports brands (Nike), television channel advertisements (sky HD)
Image analysis - Makes people look natural and feel comfortable to get a more natural image. Depending on the photograph, he tries to capture the natural beauty with each model by using lighting and make-up and wearing stylish clothing.
Interpretation of meaning - each person is individual, trying to capture their own personality.

Image analysis: this image was taken with a fast shutter speed and in black and white and in a professional studio where he can control lighting
Interpretation of meaning: He's looking serious as if he's in some situation but he's still relatively calm and not stressing

Image analysis: this image was taken up close to the model with a fast shutter speed again taken in a professional studio.
Interpretation of meaning: this could show that the model could be interested in music and the way the double bass or cello is positioned with the tuning peg where the eye should be it could mean that music is as much of her as her music is.

Image analysis: the image was taken with a relatively fast shutter speed as he needed to capture the hare moving it also has a large depth of field and was taken in a professional studio where he can control lighting and the fan as the fan speed will control the way the hair will move.
Interpretation of meaning: her eyes show mystery as they are not fully open but are not quite closed. the colour red also signifies danger leaving the subject a danger yet mysterious

Ansel adams: Nature and landscapes

Ansel Adams:
Category - Nature and landscapes
Purposes - Calenders, promotion - national parks, art
Image analysis - photographs are in black and white, used to have big cameras so it shows dedication, fine detail
Interpretation of meaning - the power of nature, some of the pictures are of people trying to 'imitate' nature

The photograph above was taken by the photographer Ansel Adams. He has got a very small aperture on the camera and he must have used a tripod because you get a very sharp photograph. it captures the desolateness that the rocky land has to offer. You can see beams of light coming through the clouds leaving it peaceful and undisturbed.

Image analysis: this photograph was taken with a small aperture in the day time but whilst the moon is out
Interpretation of meaning: this photograph captures the natural beauty of the canyon as it is supposed to be day light but the moon is out making it look like moon is being personified and doesn't want to be left out.

Image analysis: This image was taken with a slow shutter speed to capture the water falling effortlessly as if it were smoke.
Interpretation of meaning: The water being a free spirit escaping the coarse, hard rocks to return to a smooth calm pool.
